The city’s
Planning Commission will convene a workshop tomorrow, Tuesday, January 31, to discuss the final draft of Galveston’s Erosion Response Plan (ERP). The ERP is a key component of the city’s Coastal Management Plan. Adoption of an ERP is essential if the City decides to seek state Coastal Erosion Planning and Response Act (CEPRA) funding to complete projects including dune and wetlands restoration, beach nourishment, shore protection, and other coastal improvement projects.
Galveston Planning Commission Erosion Response Plan Workshop
Tuesday, January 31
1:00PM – 3:30PM
Galveston City Hall – Room 204
823 Rosenberg
The meeting is open to the public and attendees will have an opportunity to comment on the draft plan. The final draft ERP is now available for review online: http://www.cityofgalveston.org/news/default.cfm?ID=5683
During the ERP’s development, city staff, project consultants, and the public reviewed and discussed beachfront policies and regulations including:
- Existing Regulations and New Requirements
- Beachfront Setback Alternatives
- Potential Dune Protection Strategies
- Recommendations for Beachfront Setbacks
- Beachfront Development Standards and Procedures
In Texas, local governments must develop plans for reducing public expenditures for erosion and storm damage losses to public and private property, including public beaches. Following the January 31 workshop the Planning Commission will consider approving the ERP. Once approved, it will be presented to the City Council for adoption at an upcoming meeting.
