Place of Deadliest Storm in U.S. History Offers Special Ghost Tours Oct. 19-31
GALVESTON, Texas (October 17, 2012) – The season for thrills and chills has arrived and Galveston Island’s ghostly history makes it one of the top destinations in the country for “haunted” adventures. From the 101-year-old Hotel Galvez to Galveston’s storied harbor, cemeteries and Victorian mansions, this month the island will be bustling with visitors seeking to be spooked by numerous ghost stories that stem from the country’s deadliest natural disaster and other tragedies.
Special ghost tours offered by the Galveston Historical Foundation will kickoff this Friday with evening Haunted Harbor Tours aboard the Seagull II passenger boat. The 5:30 p.m. tours will take guests on a narrated exploration of spooky corners and tragic sites in and around Galveston’s harbor and will be offered on Oct. 19 -20, Oct. 26-27 and Halloween.
The historical foundation will also host its “Spirits of the Past” Haunted Cemetery Tours at Broadway Cemetery beginning this Saturday and Sunday and again on Oct. 27-28 plus Halloween. Beginning next weekend, guests will be able to enjoy a candlelight tour of the historic mansion Bishop’s Palace, which survived the Great Storm of 1900 – still the deadliest storm in U.S. history having killed an estimated 8,000 Galvestonians. Bishop’s Palace House at Night Tours will take place on Oct. 26-27 as well as Hallowee n.
New this year, Galveston Historical Foundation will open the doors of Galveston’s oldest existing residence – the 1838 Michel B. Menard House – for its “After Dark” Haunted History Tours. These 9 p.m. tours will be offered Oct. 28 through Halloween, allowing the public to explore the home’s history of spirits and séances. On Oct. 27, the foundation will host a Victorian Séance at Menard House that is open to the public. For details on Galveston Historical Foundation ghost tours, visit www.galvestonhistory.org.

Galveston is also home to Texas’ only year-round haunted house, Haunted Mayfield Manor, which is offering extended hours and special haunts during the Halloween season.
