El Rey Mexican Restaurant

I’ve driven by El Rey Mexican Restaurant on 39th Street dozens of times, wondering what their food was like. So when a friend suggested we meet there for lunch I saw it as an opportunity to branch out from my usual routine.

We checked out Courtyard Caffe while the weather was comfortable for outdoor seating. Just going into this establishment is walking into another world. We were seated in the midst of a wondrous cacophony of European-feeling architecture and decor, all hand-built by the amazing proprietor Ladislaw Klos–who with his wife also provides the culinary offerings.

On a cold wintry day, nothing could match the appeal of a hot breakfast that I did not have to prepare. And a Mexican breakfast seemed most appealing of all.
