The Galveston Restaurant Association and Galveston.com & Company “Great Taste of the Gulf” Epicurean Evening returns for its 40th year Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Moody Gardens Convention Center. The event is underwritten by Galveston.com & Company for the 9th consecutive year.
More than 2,000 expected guests will have the opportunity to sample some of the Gulf Coast’s finest cuisine and beverages provided by over 100 of Galveston County’s top restaurateurs, hoteliers and dedicated suppliers. Festivities will also include a Silent Auction featuring a variety of unique items, an Awards Presentation, and the bestowing of the Silver Spoon Award for Best Dish and – new for 2011, the Silver Whisk, honoring the event’s Best Participant.
Also new this year, Galveston.com & Company is pleased to offer Epicurean Evening patrons a convenient new plate which features both an area for cuisine samples and a universal beverage holder for stemware, cups, bottles, cans, and more, making “mixing and mingling” a snap! And the best part? It’s made of green-friendly recyclable polystyrene, so not only is it great for the environment, it’s also easily cleaned and used again and again. Containers will be conveniently provided at the center’s exits for recycling.
2011’s Epicurean Evening will also be the “unofficial” kickoff to a second event, “Galveston.com & Company’s Salute to Galveston Island Seafood,” which continues daily thru September 25th at participating restaurants throughout Galveston Island. During this inaugural event, guests will enjoy special seafood dishes created specially for this weekend. A list of participants and their featured dishes is available at Facebook.com/GalvestonSeafood/.
The Galveston Restaurant Association is a member of the Texas Restaurant Association, an organization whose mission is to serve as the advocate in Texas and indispensable resource for the hospitality and foodservice industry. Proceeds from Galveston’s Epicurean Evening ticket sales are donated to the Texas Restaurant Association in an effort to support the organization’s Education Foundation, Political Action Committee, and the Strike Fund.
All proceeds from the event’s silent auction benefit the Francisco Paco Vargas Scholarship Fund, which assists Galveston County students seeking careers in the hospitality industry.
