As a “frequent floater” Lorraine prides herself on her organizational skills.
Consider that she has put together many multi-week excursions involving flights to embarkation points and cruises of up to 16 nights –all with 1 suitcase (under the limited 50 pounds) and 1 carry-on.
On Spud’s and her recent 14 night Caribbean-circuit cruise (two 7-nighters back-to-back) out of Galveston, however, organization WAS NOT her forte. Knowing that when cruising in the winter season one is more susceptible to allergy attacks, colds, etc. she neglected to pack remedies for either – leaving her to the (by-then depleted) resources available in the General Store. Oh well – so she missed something. Still ahead of the game all cruises considered.
Where did she put her black necklace for formal nights? Oops – still sitting on the dresser at home. But, when a strap on her evening sandals broke and her trusty tube of super glue was nowhere to be found, she knew her “organization muse” had abandoned her.
She survived with ego intact however – until the final night of the second cruise. Returning from dinner she changed into her comfy night-shirt, carefully packed her dinner clothes – zipped-up the suitcases –and placed them in the hallway well before the appointed hour of 11p.m. While relaxing on the balcony looking back on having survived despite the “blips” – it suddenly dawned that the slacks she planned to wear off the ship in the morning were packed in the luggage which by then been efficiently transferred to the baggage holding area in the bowels of the ship! Lorraine didn’t have “pants on the ground” she, in fact, had NO PANTS!
Modesty went south as she ran down the hallway dressed only in her nightshirt searching for help -and finding a luggage steward – pled her case. A long twenty minutes later the luggage was returned – the slacks retrieved – and the steward pocketed a well-deserved gratuity.
The stories you hear of passengers having to debark in pajamas – barefoot – in borrowed or mis-matched clothing are not made up – STUFF HAPPENS – no matter how well-organized you may think you are – LOL!!!!
