Thirsty?
The cost of quenching can run into some big bucks on a cruise ship. But…..for “thrifty” cruisers – there are “packages” available. Sorry “hard” drinkers – Lorraine is talking about wine packages.
Galveston will be host to Disney, Princess, Carnival, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. All offer wine packages at substantial savings –15% to 20% off individual bottle purchases. And the best part is – you can carry it around the ship with you to enjoy anywhere – in the dining room – at any bar –or in your stateroom. And, what you don’t consume you can carry off the ship when you debark.
Spud and Lorraine always purchase a wine package. Lorraine learned early from her Italian Grandfather that “a meal without wine is called breakfast.”
Order your selection in the dining room to enjoy with dinner – any partial bottles can be carried with you or held in your name to enjoy the following evening. Once, we had left the dining room and settled into our favorite bar, only to find they had run out of Lorraine’s favorite label. No problem, she simply retrieved the partial bottle from the dining room and brought it to the bar where it subsequently met its demise.
These “packages” come in “tiers” – the better the label, the higher the cost! If you’re not a “wine snob” grab the cheapest package –incidentally the “package price” includes “gratuity” – which eliminates the need for further tipping (unless you want to slip the nice waiter in the bar who brings you a couple of glasses a buck or two – LOL)!
For non-wine aficionados, some lines offer “bulk discounts” on bottled water – and, of course the always reliable soft drink “bottomless cup.” Check out your lines policy – you can quench your thirst and save a few bucks!
Footnote: Before posting a couple of lines announced that they are lines are selectively “test-marketing” a price-fixe “booze package” (beer/wine/selected hard labels) – but that’s another blog.
Footnote 2: Royal Caribbean recently changed their policy to allow 1(7.50 mil.) bottle wine per adult (max. 2 per cabin- for in-room consumption) to be “carried on” on day of embarkation only. Lorraine will no longer have to risk going to the principal’s office to surrender her bottles of “cheep red.” – LOL
