Winter Water Land: Schlitterbahn Indoor Waterpark

With the fall chill in air, riding the waves and splashing in the pool probably won’t be happening anytime soon, right?

Of course there’s always an indoor pool somewhere.  But here on the island, there’s an alternative to wishing for spring.  Trade in the sweater or jacket for a bathing suit at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Heated Indoor Waterpark.

“It’s a great way to heat up your traditional outing in winter – a different family experience you can do around the holidays,” says waterpark spokeswoman Melissa White.  “It’s a great place for winter birthday parties.”

Named the World’s Best Indoor Waterpark for five years in a row by the industry magazine Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket Awards, the indoor waterpark’s heated attractions include speed slides, hot tub, tube chutes, the Boogie Bahn surf ride, speed slides, a wave pool and wave river, and a water playground for kids.

Amenities include free parking, free tubes and free lifejackets, and guests can bring their own coolers.  The indoor park is open on weekends through December and on holiday breaks.

“Visitors can soar down a 4-story, enclosed tube chute, and many other thrilling attractions, all in climate controlled comfort,” says White.  “Children with winter birthdays can now celebrate with waterpark fun.”

According to the Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark, Wasserfest is a 70,000-square-foot climate controlled convertible indoor outdoor area of the park that includes a dozen heated water attractions:

-              Faust & Furious – Choose between two speed slides for the ultimate race down-hill. The 312-foot long adventure begins more than 60-feet in the air.

-              Guada-Loopy Tube Chutes – Climb aboard for a white-water journey – in the dark! Select between two completely enclosed tube slides that begin more than four-stories high and run more than 390-feet long.

-              Loopy Luge Tube Chutes – Hop in a tube and experience sharp curves and sudden drops. Select between two unique slides that begin more than four-stories high and run more than 390-feet long.

-              Rohr! – Get ready to break the speed limit! Dare to take a vertical plunge from the top of a 60-foot high tower then travel faster than 30 mph down a 244 foot-long body slide back to the bottom.

-              Torrent Beach – Relax on a secluded shoreline.

-              Torrent Beach Kids’ areas – Two play structures await young adventure seekers.

-              Torrent® River – A Schlitterbahn original!  Adventure along a “tidal wave river” that generates continuous waves that carries inner tube riders along a meandering waterway that curves in and around other Wasserfest attractions. Guests float endlessly around a 1,250-foot long, 20-foot-wide river.

-              Wasserfest Hot Tub – Relax in the ultimate 1,100-square-foot spa including a swim-up bar.
